Introduction:
We all know trends get outdated during the end of generation gap. Things evolve due to the new generation, the same way interior designs trends change and new trends are setted for upcoming generations. These Interior design trends lasted for 3 decades from 70s to 2000.
Wood Paneling:
Wood paneling was considered as the best concept for interior design in the 70s and 80s. But at this moment the concept is avoided by many customers. Because you need to spend more money during maintenance. At the same time we must think about our environment too. Wood paneling needs tons of wood.
Shag Carpet:
Shag Carpet is a dream come true moment. We would have seen it in movies. As an interior designer we have installed dozens of shag carpet in high class & rich families. It’s becoming outdated because customers are eagerly looking for modern and aesthetic carpets.
Tile Countertops:
Tile countertops were common in the 80s to 2000s. It happened when granites and marbles were not easily affordable. Customers used different tile countertops for the kitchen, bathroom and to some extent in the living room. Things got complicated when the cleaning process was not good and easy.
People easily switched to granite and marble, when the affordability of these products were easy.
Linoleum Flooring:
This type of flooring is commonly used in dining and kitchen areas and even now people use this concept for their home. But in the long run, linoleum flooring does not work. The wear and tear is common and you must spend money for alteration and replacement.
Edison Bulbs:
Edison bulbs have been in the market for more than 150 years. We might consider it as an antique style product. But in recent years. This antique style design is going out of fashion. But people are focusing on chandelier lights compared with Edison bulbs.
Tuscan Kitchens:
This is a kind of modular kitchen with extraordinary artwork. We can see this type of kitchen in 1600 palaces. But due to cost efficiency and creative work. People are avoiding this type of kitchen. Customers now are completely focusing on affordability and Convenience rather than high cost artwork.
Wallpapers:
People have been using wallpapers for years. The concept of pasting wallpapers on walls didn’t change but the design and art work have changed tremendously. For Example the common design for wallpapers are DAMASK.
In the early 80’s and Mid 90’s Damask wallpapers were trending one but now the DAMASK designs aren’t trending.
At the same time customers are avoiding wallpaper borders. Normally wallpaper borders are seen in nursery, primary school and even in some old fashion houses.
But 95% of people avoid these wallpaper borders for their home.
Choose Contrast rather than Matching:
People have used matching concepts for more than 500 years. They match the color combination from windows to furniture. But the palaces and big house did that because they had space. But if you take a small house or a mid size house, this concept will not work.
We encourage our customers to go for contrast colors. A Contrast color for windows and furniture will definitely take the design to the next level. So please avoid the Matching Window Valances.
Overload of Granite and Marble:
When Granite and Marble became affordable in the 2000s people started to over use it everywhere in the home. So overuse of granite might make the home costlier but it doesn’t look good.
Any how the design is going away from people’s perspective and this concept is almost gone away from trending.
Ferns and Plants:
Using ferns and plants provide you good luck. So people use it for a natural feeling. These concepts have been trending in the 2000s. Everyone started to use ferns and indoor plants.
But never overuse ferns and plants. It doesn’t look good in your home.
Glass Blocks:
Glass blocks were used from the 70s to the 2000s. They are commonly used for shower space, because people want sunlight in shower area. But after the development of new designs and ideas.
People started to use Glass for some creative concepts.
